Pench National Park

Mowgli's Own

The Pench Tiger Reserve though not a new comer is experiencing a surge of tourists in recent times. With greater conservation measures the tigers have become more visible. Mowgli the wolf child once roamed amidst the wolves and other wild denizens. Bagheera and Kaa are seen with luck and so Baloo the bear.
The tiger population has increased in this wildlife refuge with an area of 700 sq km. The fauna is typical; the Central Indian Mammals, Birds and Reptiles.  But the Bison and Sambar deer are more easily seen while spotted deer and langurs are a common sight. This is one place where Indian wolf can be seen although with difficulty beside Nauradehi wildlife sanctuary in MP.

Pench is extremely rich in birdlife although more study has to be done. Visitors find lot of interesting bird species especially in winters.  The tropical dry deciduous mixed forests are a better habitat for birds and animals alike as food factor is enhanced.

The life line of the ecosystem is Pench River which runs through the park and ends at Totlah Doh where it has been dammed.
In Pench tourism is well developed with accommodation in luxyer hotels of Pench and wildlife resorts. There are a few three star hotels and plenty of budget resorts in the jungle. More hotels and lodges are being built in Pench wildlife refuge to give tourists greater option for accomodation.
Pench is connected by Air with Nagpur which is 80 km and with Delhi. Another option is from Jabalpur drive is approx 200 km to Pench tiger reserve. Jabalpur is connected by air with New Delhi. Kanha Pench distance is about seven hours drive.
